Democratic Senators Block McLeroy as SBOE Chair

AUSTIN, Texas – Following much speculation about the confirmation of Don McLeroy to the State Board of Education (SBOE) Chair, the Texas Senate voted today by a vote of 19-11 to deny him a second term as Chairman. McLeroy needed 21 votes, 2/3 of the 31 Senate members, to be confirmed. Gov. Perry reappointed McLeroy in February, and was passed by the Senate Nominations Committee on May 20. Critics of McLeroy have for months focused on his religious beliefs, even highlighting statements he made at his church. Some Senators pointed to national stories that were critical of him as reason for opposition. The vote fell along party lines.

After the vote, Free Market Foundation (FMF) Director of Legislative Affairs and Attorney Jonathan Saenz released the following statement:

“Some Senators have made it clear that the N.Y. Times, religious beliefs, and party affiliation are in control of deciding who serves as SBOE chairman. The message has been sent -- if you have sincere religious beliefs, you need not apply to be chair of the State Board of Education."

FMF President Kelly Shackelford said this:

“I find the comments about McLeroy’s religion and the Senate vote to be very disturbing. This is an embarrassment and a black mark on the Senate. We expect the Governor to nominate an SBOE Chair who is just as conservative as McLeroy, and therefore, representative of the people of Texas.”

Darwinian Duplicity Depletes In-Dependence

The M.O. is unmistakable: Take your agenda, flip it on the opposition, and scream fowl at the top of your lungs! Logic is non-existent. Out of one side of your mouth say one thing. Out of the other side, say another. The issues run the full gamut of the political spectrum. In the crosshairs this Sunday, is the Humanist doctrine of Evolutionary Origins. The agenda of T.F.N. and their comrades depletes Liberty in our Great State.

Evolutionary Origins (a.k.a. neo-Darwinism) asserts that random processes produce greater intelligence in natural organisms. Great debate over origins is still evident in casual conversations among scientists, while the voice of formal secular science heralds the notion that the argument is settled and Texas schools need to protect the children from Intelligent Design and Creationist indoctrination carried by Biblical Theists.

I wonder who is protecting our children from the Humanist Religion that depletes
self-responsibility and moral awareness. Who will protect our school children
from the brainwashing of the Secular Humanist Ideology and the maniacal
doctrines that limit thinking and debate?

This Sunday, March 1st, Dave Welch of the U.S. Pastor Council, and Jonathan Saenz of the Free Market Foundation will help us consider the state of Evolutionary Origins in the church and the public schools. Many Pastors are summarily chastised by congregants, dare they challenge Neo-Darwinian thought. The Texas State Board of Education has been manipulated by Humanists who claim teaching of weaknesses on Evolutionary Theory will hurt Texas students’ ability to pursue careers. Take Away These Chains!

As the U.S. celebrates a great milestone in the history of Civil Rights, the inauguration of President Barack Obama, the chains of slavery still linger in the world. Obama's grandmother freely boards a plane from Kenya to the U.S. on her own freewill, while women and young girls in Indonesian are lured into the chains of the sex-trade.

It's going to be an exciting week. The inauguration in the Federal City, Wall Street's response, the firestorm over evolution at the Texas SBOE, and the launch of the "Commit to Christ' Bride" Campaign. You've gotta hear this show!

I Understand You're Busy

Yes, I know, you're busy. You've got business and family to take care of. I do too. With that said, there is one more thing I need you to do. Comment on the newspaper editorials, especially you who live here in Austin.

This week, the Statesman Editorial Board called for the resignation of Cynthia Dunbar from the Texas State Board of Education. Dunbar and others are calling for more objective teaching on the Evolutionary Origins. The Statesman is a media outlet for the secular progressive movement, and many people commenting on their stories are the same. Dunbar respects and knows the Constitution of this nation, and I highly recommend her.
