For those in the Christian realm this news comes as no surprise. You understand that the core of our society, the core of our culture, the quality of our educational system, and the robustness of our economy ... they all begin at home.
What you've known for years has been validated by a study, which has been trust upon the blog rolls by an op-ed piece in the NY Times. Have a read, if you like. It comes from David Brooks. The researchers claim that U.S. graduation levels peaked in the late 1960s, and they can predict educational achievement potential of 5 year old child with chilling accuracy.
Family is the origin of everything civil about the civilized world. As parents, we have the most awesome role in the world. The parent is the starting point for teaching self government, the laws of God and human worth. Brooks says, Obama is already acting on the study and the GOP is inept on "human capital policies". I'd love to have a conversation with Brooks.

A Needed Abolitionist Movement
While there is much buzz over the U.S. House apology for slavery and segregation, there is a rarely told active slave trade that fills the sexual appetites of the globe, including the U.S. and European nations. It buys, sells, and traps women and children for sexual exploitation. Tidbits of this story have unfolded in recent years, and now it has an opportunity to get the world's attention with the release of a new movie this fall, Call & Response.
Thanks to Eileen Flynn at the Statesman for bringing this to our attention. You can also comment on Eileen's Secular & Sacred Blog and read a 2004 State Department Report.

None of the Above Coming Soon
Joseph Farah has announced the release of his new book, None of the Above, for August 18th.
Farah will attempt to explain why neither McCain nor Obama are qualified for office, and is recommending that voters go to the ballot box with a third party or write vote of "None of the Above". Farah believes Republicans and Democrats both need a wake-up call.

God Betrayed - Churches Under State Authority
Jerald Finney and Stephen Reeves joined us on air for the first ever Political Hope Radio Show on July 27th, 2008. I am grateful for their contribution to the success of the program, and for the work they have both put into the on-going debate over the First Amendment.
Finney's book chronicles Biblical principles relating to the separation of church and state in the , and the American history and application. Finney asserts that the church and state are separate institutions that should not be under the authority of the other, and that both are "under God".
Finney witnessed the State of Texas shutdown a church operated boys home in 1986, and asserts that the church was right in rejecting a state child care license, and the state was wrong in it closing the boys home for failure to obtain a license. Finney further asserts that the the church is compromises itself when voluntarily submitting to state authority with similar license, incorporation, and 501(c)(3) tax exemptions.
There are many issues that can be discussed here. Please join in the discussion with grace and respect.

The Nuclear Option Is Not Unclear
Thomas Sowell published an article in Jewish World Review on June 5th. It is worth your time to read; simple and to the point. America faces many dangers these days, and our next President will have to be clear about which side of the nuclear battlefield he is on. Sowell knows where the candidates stand. What about you?
