Opening the Border Agenda

Last week the State Affairs Committee moved its first round of bills out of committee. That represented 10 of 299 bills referred to the committee. In the Borders and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee nine bills were moved out of committee, and they have 32 to go. State Affairs is still facing 289 bills. In the 80th Legislature (2007) 87 of 201 bills made it out, leaving 114 stranded. Which issues will be stranded in committee this time around? Not that I'm suggesting being stranded is always a bad thing. Anyway ...

Among those on the long list of un-attended bill are illegal immigration issues. Illegal Immigration is likely to be the most pressing, yet un-attended, policy issues in the 81st Texas Legislature. When the nomination of Joe Strauss went down, it became clear. The issue of illegal immigration would likely the missing element of the Conservative agenda under the moderate leadership of Joe Strauss. I hope he proves me wrong.

Rep. Burt Solomons of Carrolton chairs the State Affairs Committee. Solomons was part of the ABC Gang. Other ABC Gang members are also on the Committee, along with freshman Diana Maldondo, and Tom Craddick himself. This Sunday we’ll find out Solomons' priority for immigration.

Rebecca Forest of IRCOT will be my guest. Rebecca is sold out for immigration reform and border security. Will her concerns get any traction under the leadership of Strauss and Solomons? Listen to the Political Hope Radio Show this Sunday at 4PM CT.

Rick Green Show Starts Today

I have good news and bad news. It's the same ole' story in that it doesn't matter what I say first, the second matter becomes obvious, and your heart is torn both ways at the same time.

The good news is that The Rick Green Show will go live on The Word KLGO 99.3 FM today from 4-6 PM CT. Rick was the youngest Texas State Representative ever elected, and he has a great passion for passing the Torch of Freedom to our next generation. My family has benefited directly from that passion, and you can see this in video testimony from Michael Bullock, my son. Watch the video >>. Check out Rick at http://www.rickgreen.com/.

The bad news is that Richard Curlee and the Homeward Bound Show are now gone from The Word. Richard Curlee has won the hearts of many folks, self included, as he faithfully served his listeners with a Texas brand of Christian news and humor. Richard will be missed by many (but not his hair, cuz it wasn't there in the first place :), and I am grateful for his coaching on the Political Hope Radio Show. Please take time to thank him! Richard, we love you, and we pray God's provision and encouragement as you move forward.

Rick, we know you'll bring a whole new realm of life to drive-time Christian talk radio in Austin. May God bless you, your family, and the show richly, as you honor His ways.

Everybody, turn to The Word now more than ever. The Word has many other great programs too. Listen on-air at FM 99.3 / 98.5 in Austin, or listen on-line at http://www.theword993.com/

Prayer Vigil at National Planned Parenthood Conference!

Event by George R. Brown Convention Center will include press conference www.texasfamilies.org

Source: www.uspastorcouncil.org, Friday, March 27th,
Planned Parenthood will have their 2009 Gala and Annual Awards ceremony at the George R. Brown Convention Center as part of their national convention. They will be honoring Hillary Clinton with their Margaret Sanger Award. We will be pointing out the direct link between Sanger, racism and the KKK!

We need you to join us for a prayer vigil on the sidewalk across the street from the George R. Brown beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a press conference following at 6:45 p.m.

We are sure that they want to show off their facility under construction. The fact that this national convention is being held in Houston emphasizes to us even more that Houston will be a major abortion hub for the southern part of the United States and South America.

We will gather in a parking lot on Jackson St. directly behind Annunciation Catholic Church at 1618 Texas Ave. at 6:00 PM and walk in a procession to the spot were we will stop and pray.

Important Note: In order to increase the impact of our public witness to the sanctity of human life, please wear red to the prayer vigil, in honor of all of the lives hurt by abortion.

This will be a legal and peaceful procession and prayer vigil; further instructions and a prayer booklet will be given to everyone before we leave the parking lot.

Please call the Houston Area Pastor Council office at 832-688-9166 with questions or for information. You may also call Houston Coalition for Life at 713-395-1330 or go to www.texasfamilies.org for additional details.

It's Morality, Stupid

The loud and hollow echo of Bill Clinton, "it's the economy, stupid", has drawn a fresh new meaning in recent months. What is the root of our economic woes? Dems say it's a lack of regulation on those bad old businesses. The GOP says it's too much regulation and taxation from the bad ole gov'ment. The truth is something else. Let me be blunt...

"It's morality, stupid!"
Long before we reached fiscal bankruptcy, we hit moral bankruptcy. America's woes are rooted in amorality. The U.S.S. Free Market has been torpedoed by humanistic values. She's keeled over and sinking to the bottom of the sea, and it has everything to do with neglecting God's commands (i.e. moral relativism).

It has oft been said, "Democracy is not a form of government to survive. For as soon as its citizens discover they can vote themselves money from the treasury, they will bankrupt it." The principle is that self-restraint is necessary for democracy to work. We attempt to counter this reality with checks and balances, the separation of power. Right now it's NOT working very well, and the Seventeenth Amendment is but one of the many problems.

Democrats believe it is the government's job to regulate business and to provide economic justice. There are two problems. One, economic justice is legalized plunder. Taking money from one class of citizens and giving it to another is called theft. The Democrats also deny our liberty to give (and loan money) according to our own judgment. Two, they insist on loaning money to those that are truly unqualified to pay it back. They want to loan your money to people that are in no place to take on debt, when debt is bad enough for those that are likely to pay it back. In other words, their regulations are immoral.

The Bible tells us not to charge interest (usury) to the poor. Yes, do not loan money to the poor for a profit (See Exodus 22:25 among many others). Rather, give money to the poor, or lend at no interest. Help them out, but do not expect to be repaid. It even says, give back collateral taken from a poor man when he needs its. The bottom line is, do not exploit the poor. Help them. Do not profit from them. This is exactly opposite of our banking and lending practices, which takes me to the Republicans.

Some in the Republican Party have forgotten that the Free Market will fail if left to run wild. While there are many Republicans that understand the importance of morality and family, apparently the majority have been consumed by the Almighty Dollar. The family, morality, and the Free Market all go together. If you neglect any one of them, they will all fail. If the family is destroyed, who will you sell to? I advocate self-restraint, not government regulation. The only problem is, if we do not restrain ourselves, God will do it for us. God's laws bring about justice one way or another. If "we the people" do not treat people with justice and righteousness, there will be a price to pay. That price may show up in the form of an oppressive government.

Both Democrats and Republicans hide much money through non-profit organizations. In Texas alone, a small pact of trial lawyers provided 87% of the Democrat Party for 2008 (www.tortreform.com/node/478). They did this primarily through PACs. This neat little trick gets around certain campaign contribution laws. A PAC can be funded by a few people, or by many.

To top it off the Dems decry big business and corporate American, yet government is the largest failed business in our country. They expect you to believe big government is exempt from the corruption of the Free Market. Corruption is impacting our entire nation: the church house, the State House, the White House, main street, Wall Street, the family, businesses and corporations. None are exempt. It is the human nature. And there is only one solution ...

God is our hope. Even our Political Hope. Things will go well in this nation only to the extent that we obey His commands, and that ... we cannot do on our own, and it doesn't take a village. It takes a Savior. Jesus Christ our LORD. He is the only true King.

Governor Perry Stiffs Fed Gov

Today, live from Houston, Texas, Governor Rick Perry gives DC a dose of good Texas business sense. Citing a careful staff review of the Federal Stimulus package, Perry says Texas would be foolish to accept un-employment insurance money and its attached strings. Perry asserts that the Fed Gov's plan would actually hinder job growth and un-employment benefits in Texas.

Breaking In to Travis County Texas

What will it take? Republicans have largely failed at the task for many years. Two-thousand-eight was not any better. It is a blue bastion of liberalism amidst the Red State of Texas. How will the Constitution Party part the blue waters of Travis County Texas?

Examining third parties from a historical perspective, there is most always a catapult that thrusts the new party on to the national stage. Does any such opportunity currently exist? Certainly, you don't expect it to be abortion, gay marriage, or other social issues that have plagued our current for years. Most people are worn out over these matters.
What key issue would unite you behind a third party?

The Libertarians have been at it in Texas since 1971. They're gradually making inroads, but man, progress is slow. Will it take a revolutionary idea to shake up contemporary politics, especially in Travis County? In the mean time many bills have been filed in the Texas House that will change ballot access or major elements of the the third party vote. Consider the following ...
  • HB 820 (Ortiz) – Ballot Access Requirements
  • HB 1821 (Davis) – Closed Primary Law
  • HB 1892 (Berman) – All Parties to Nominate by Primary Election
  • HB 1768 (Branch) – Elimination of Straight Party Voting
This Sunday, Texas Representative Solomon Ortiz, Jr. and Travis County Constitution Party Chairman, Brian York, will join me on-air. We'll talk about ballot access in Texas, and potential emerging issues that could shake up politics in Travis County, Texas and the nation. And ... just for fun, we'll test your knowledge on an unusual third party founded in 1828.

Abstaining from Christian Ed

On one hand you have the Condoms and Clorox crowd calling for "comprehensive" sex education. On the other you have those calling for an exodus of Christians from the public school system. Scattered in between are those that think education problems lie with the government, the teachers, other kids, other schools, other parents, and a host of other failures that DO NOT include self. The common element I see is that no one is saying, "the responsibility lies with me".

It is clear that Christian values and Biblical education are on the decline in American culture. While Texas' current education code requires abstinence based sex education, is the real problem mass abstinence from true Christian Education? It is reasonable to expect our kids to receive a Christian Education while attended public or private schools? And are national Christian Ministries enabling the status-quo on Christian Ed in American?

These questions and more will be addressed this Sunday, March 8th, on the Political Hope Radio Show. Ret. LTC E. Ray Moore with Exodus Mandate will be our guest to discuss Exodus Mandate's Report Card on National Christian Ministries. Also joining the show is Associate Professor Kris Sloan of St. Edwards University in Austin. Professor Sloan has spent much time assessing school accountability, specifically the No Child Left Behind policy. He is also the author of a recent book, "Holding Schools Accountable: A Handbook for Educators and Parents".

When it comes to education, does the buck stop with you as a parent? Join us for the Political Hope Radio show this Sunday at 4 pm, and call with your questions or comments about Christian Education in America.
